Nicole Scherzinger Set to Shine in ‘Sunset Boulevard’ on Broadway this Autumn

Jamie Lloyd’s reimagined revival of “Sunset Boulevard,” starring Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond, will make its Broadway debut this fall after a successful run in London.

The London production received 11 Olivier Award nominations, with Scherzinger being nominated for best actress in a musical and Lloyd for best director. Previews for the Broadway show will start on Sept. 28, with the opening night scheduled for Oct. 20 at the St. James Theater.

Based on a 1950 film by Billy Wilder, the musical features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. Previous Broadway productions starred Glenn Close, while Patti LuPone originated the role in London and Gloria Swanson in the film.

Lloyd, known for his stark and psychological productions of classics, described the new stripped-down production as more focused on the emotional and psychological journey than elaborate sets.

Set in midcentury Los Angeles, the show follows a silent film star trying to revive her career by connecting with a young screenwriter.

Scherzinger, known for her work in music, acting, and television, is set to make her Broadway debut with this potentially career-defining role. She expressed excitement and readiness to explore the character further.

During her nine-month commitment to the role, Scherzinger will be joined by her Olivier-nominated co-stars Tom Francis, Grace Hodgett-Young, and David Thaxton on Broadway.
