ATHERTON, Calif. — In the game of flag football, freshman player Laila Young showcases her natural talent, resembling someone who has played the sport before. Her sister, Summer, who is a senior, also displays her natural abilities on the field. Laila plays the X position, while Summer plays the Z position. During a particular play, Laila’s route is on point, but she has to come back to catch an underthrown pass. Unfortunately, she drops the ball, resulting in a loss for her team. Laila’s father, who is not only her dad but also an assistant coach for Menlo School and a former NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP, offers her some perspective. He shares a personal story about a game he played in 1991 and tells Laila that her regret is similar to what he felt during that game.
